Great Spanish 1 Book

The story began in Paris, France during the Spanish Civil War. A place you wouldn't expect to be seen in a spanish novel. The plot of the book is pretty straight forward, Get the spear of destiny. The spear of destiny is a special spear that everyone is trying to get. Everyone being Paula, Luis, Mario and Javier. Mario and Javier are spies for General Francisco Franco. Mario and Paula have a crush on each other and the romance continues throughout the book. I thought the book was quite good for what it was. I thought it was a bit dry but was still surprised. I thought it was just going to be god awful. I definitely recommend this book for early spanish learners.

I am a Spanish major and have been to the Prado to see Picasso's Guernica but I still learned a few interesting facts. It is written on a very low level of Spanish. This is not a book written for children but those learning Spanish. There is a big difference and publishers are only now realizing this. The font is large and double spaced and there are lots of historical photographs. I found the chase scenes a little silly and the timing seemed off. The ending was also a bit abrupt. Overall, it was very enjoyable reading with interesting settings.

A Wonderful Tool For My Morning Prayer....

According to the back cover, this booklet of tear-out prayer cards came about because of the success of the prayers suggested in the original book, "The Power Of A Praying Wife." Evidently, faithful readers were scribbling the prayers on notepads or ripping them out of the book to keep them handy and so the author collected them in this booklet. I haven't read the original book; I just stumbled across the cards and, they being exactly what I needed, I bought them.
I have a morning prayer routine and I was looking for something to help me focus some of that time on my husband. Being new to prayer, I was hoping there was something more specific out there that I could be praying besides my general, "God, please take care of him and bless his day." THESE CARDS ARE GREAT! Yesterday's (to give you an example), from His Past, included: "Lord, wherever my husband's past has become an unpleasant memory, I pray You would redeem it and bring life out of it. Bind up his wounds (Psalm 147:3). Restore his soul (Psalm 23:3). Help him to release the past so that he will no live in it, but learn from it, break out of it, and move into the future You have for him."
My favorite section of prayers is the His Wife category in which the author suggests you pray to become a better wife; I pray one His Wife card every day as part of my rosary and then later randomly pick one other. An example? "Lord, help me to be a good wife. . . Take my selfishness, impatience, and irritability and turn them into kindness, long-suffering, and the willingness to bear all things. Take my old emotional habits, mindsets, automatic reactions, rude assumptions, and self-protectiveness, and make me patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. . . Only You can transform me."
The author has also written at least one other Prayer Card booklet, from her book "The Power of a Praying Parent", and I intend to buy it, too, so that I can keep my neices and nephews in daily prayer. I highly recommend these cards.

A great addition to the Jin Shin Jyutsu writings

Enjoyed this integration of vedic and JSJ teachings, and learned some new things Mary Burmeister taught/said. The description of the interface between Jin and Shin, and other non-dualistic philosophies were easy to understand. I've been to several 5-day seminars and special topic courses, and it seems the teachers have a rather rote dialogue and the same visuals to describe the manifestation of energy into matter/human form; I appreciated the authors clear references, analogies, and expressed appreciation for JSJ while interweaving a variety of diagrams and stories in this book. Although A Touch of Healing remains my "JSJ Bible", and the one that I always recommend for clients and students, this is a great addition for personal use and delving more deeply into the multi-faceted philosophy and practice of this beautiful hands-on Japanese healing art.

An okay book

An interesting compilation of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Vedic, and Buddhist philosophies intended, I suspect, to be deep and esoteric. The author does tend to ramble on. I enjoyed the nice little explanations of the 26 safety energy locks with bits of philosophy tossed in. I do, however, take exception to the author's stern admonition to use Jin Shin only for oneself and NOT on other people. Complete and utter nonsense. Jin Shin is available to use by anyone on whomever they choose. No exceptions. With clear and loving intention only good comes forth. Mary Burmeister often gave instruction via long distance phone to Jin Shin novices regarding appropriate placement of hands on a person in need of healing. And she was the cat's meow. Universal healing energy is universal healing energy and available to all. No one benefits by attempts to keep Jin Shin under the control of an exclusive little herd of self-styled special folks. The author also casually dismisses the "cook book" method of sharing Jin Shin. In fact this type of information is very helpful to anyone searching for quick first aid.
Primarily, Original Jin Shin is for someone wishing to read ABOUT Jin Shin. For anyone truly interested in learning to practice this amazing art I would recommend Jin Shin Fee by Felicitas Waldeck. This is a book about Jin Shin Jyutsu with a necessary name change in order to circumvent the grasping Scottsdale Jin Shin Jyutsu corporate machine. Also Touch of Healing by Alice Burmeister is excellent. Anyone can skillfully learn to practice Jin Shin without lengthy, "authorized" and very pricey training. It's a powerful healing modality available to everyone. Don't be misled.

Authentic and authoritative!

Skillfully presented theory and lucid Jin Shin application protocols from a practitioner with a rich background in eastern healing modalities and yogic philosophy. Lot's of "aha" moments of comprehension, this book is a treasure and a must read for anyone interested in Jin Shin Jytsu pioneered by Mary Burmeister in the U.S. This is translation from a Dutch language original - sometimes evident - but refreshingly so. Highly recommended!

"...This is an interesting and unusual book written with the intention of serving several purposes. One of them is to demonstrate that methods of algebraic topology, in particular homology theory, that have proved remarkably successful in several areas of pure mathematics can provide powerful, and in some cases indispensable, tools in a number of areas of applied mathematics and science. The second is to provide the necessary theory and "technology" for such applications. This means on the one hand providing all the necessary mathematical foundations of the subject, including definitions and theorems, and on the other hand efficient computational techniques capable of dealing with real life situations. Thus, the book stresses algorithmic and computational approaches; and in fact includes computer code written in a programming language specially designed for this purpose. It is addressed to a varied audience of computer scientists, experimental scientists and engineers while at the same time trying to retain the interest of mathematicians. Grade 2-5-Set in the 1930s, this story tells of a young Scottish girl, Kirstie, and her brother, Angus, who find a mysterious egg capsule washed up on shore after a storm and take it home. To their delight, this "mermaid's purse" hatches into a lovable sea monster they call Crusoe. It keeps growing and growing, until finally it is too big to live anywhere but in nearby Loch Ness. Children who enjoy animal stories will welcome one about this unusual creature. The characters are believable and, since King-Smith relates events from the point of view of the water horse as well as those of Kirstie and her family, readers get to know the friendly, not-at-all-fearsome monster. This is a cute book on 'Nessie'

I have to say the advertisements for the movie of The Water Horse prompted me to look to the book it was based on and what a cutie of a book it is -
Set in 1930's Scotland, after a huge storm a family goes to the shore to see what has washed up - and they found something very strange -
maybe something alive? an egg? what is it?
Well the kids take it inside and place it in the tub with water - to their surprise when they go to the tub the next morning, the container is open! And there is a cute creature that 'chirrups' at them - the grandfather tells them it is a water horse - the kind of creature that is of legend in the lochs of Scotland -
They feed the little fella and call him Crusoe and soon he needs to be placed in a pond, then a larger pond and when he is almost too big, the family takes him to a large loch to spend his life -
The family loves him and he loves them and learns that all humans aren't like them -
It is a story of love for the family and love of an innocent animal that has charmed the world with its legendary existence -
I plan to see the movie, but my imagination soared as I imagined the tiny water horse in the bathtub eating sardines...
Charming!!

If you're into exitement, adventure, & mystery then read The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith. In this book you will find that a girl named Kirstie finds an egg on the beach and keeps it for a pet. But, Kirstie doesn't know that the egg she has is really a ferocious monster. Kirstie finds out that every day when she checks on the monster it never stops growing. I would recommend this book to anyone that's into adventure and mystery because this book is very interesting in a weird sort of way!

Wonderful book - but don't see the movie

This is a sweet story, appropriate for young children starting at about age 5. It is very low stress, benign. Just right for parents who are tired of stories about violence and meanness and seek out magical tales full of caring and goodness. Too bad they took this darling tale and turned it into a terrible hollywood movie full of canons, war, a dead father and chase scenes. In saying this I give nothing away about the book, because NONE of this was from the book.
